Frequently Asked Questions

Prescott & Sons Construction

  1. Who is the father & who is the son?
Josh began the business and has 2 sons & a daughter. You may meet any or all of them at some point on the job or at his office.
  2. Are you licensed & insured?
Yes. We carry worker’s compensation & general liability. We can always provide a certificate of liability insurance with more detailed information. This is something any contractor should be willing and able to supply.
  3. Do I really need to use a licensed contractor to complete my home renovation projects?
Absolutely. Would you go to a dentist who wasn’t licensed? We hear horror stories all the time about a homeowner hiring an unlicensed contractor or friend of a friend, who took their hard earned money and never finished a job. Your home is probably the biggest single investment you will make in a lifetime. Why risk it?
  4. Do you replace windows? Roofs? Vinyl siding? Gutters? Kitchens?
Yes. We can remodel, repair, or replace anything on the interior or exterior your home.
  5. Do you finance?
No. We like to leave that up to the banks.
  6. Do you handle 203K or Homepath loan renovations?
All the time. We enjoy working on renovations w/ these type loans and are very experienced with how the process works.
  7. Do you build custom homes?
Yes. We love to build custom homes throughout the CSRA. Your plans or ours. We have tons to choose from and even have some lots if you haven’t found one already.
  8. Do you have a price per square foot to give "ball park pricing”?
The price per sq. ft. depends totally on your tastes. We have built homes from $65/sq. ft. up to $200/sq. ft. We are not a track home builder. If you are looking for the cheapest, you have probably come to the wrong place.
  9. How do your prices compare to those of other contractors in our area?
We have never had a problem being competitive in our pricing when we compare "apples to apples". We may sometimes lose a job because we are underbid, only to find out later that the other contractor used lesser quality building materials, or has lower standards of quality in terms of labor performance. We realize that there will always be someone who will do the job for less. We always strive to provide the best value for our clients.
  10. What are the most important questions to ask a contractor giving me a bid?
Here are just a few- Are you licensed w/ the state and for what type work? How much general liability & workers comp coverage do you have? Have you ever filed bankruptcy? Have you been in business under another name in the past? Will you be pulling permits for the job?
  11. What ROI can I expect on my home renovation?
ROI varies based on the type of renovation. View this table for a list of average value on many popular renovations.

We called Prescott & Sons to help us upgrade our house with new windows. The upgrade met our expectations with a REM "Re-sale value, Energy Saving, Maintenance Free" affect. Thanks Prescott & Sons for meeting these expectations and so much more!
